BE THE MOP-UP Crew

IMG_0050One thing we do well is clean up other people’s messes. It is most important that they do not realize this is what is happening. There are some important steps to follow to make sure that you do not leave a trail or trace behind.

1.Keep your tools handy. You need a bucket, paper towels, disinfectant soap, broom, mop, dustpan, plastic  garbage bags (preferably black)access to a washing machine and dryer, vacuum cleaner, spackle, touch up paint, sheets of clear plastic, plunger and Windex

2.Allow 15 minutes clean up time for every hour that was spent on the activity. (less is required as you gain experience)

3.Choose the course of action which best suits the results of past activity. North to South or top layer to bottom.

4. Choose a team leader. (one with most or any experience)

5. Proceed.

Hints: Black trash bags are your biggest ally. It is suggested that each person keeps one with them during the clean-up. Do not think too much about recycling during this project. Consider all discards as garbage and simply place in black bag. If there are sheets and blankets involved and you have two hours for clean-up, put them in washer first so they can be dried in time for completion. After all discards are placed in garbage bags, use paper towels to wipe off crumbs and debris on tables and flat surfaces. Next, mix disinfectant in your bucket with some hot water.(for big messes)Dip paper towels in water, squeeze out excess moisture and wipe down surface. On smaller messes, simply spray some 409 or Lysol spray or what ever you have in your tool kit and wipe it down. Now tackle the walls and wipe off food or debris with the spray cleaner.(you may need to rinse with water) Pick up any metal objects off carpet (coins, pieces of wire etc.)Now, vacuum room being sure to move or lift furniture (particularly couches) and clean and vacuum there to avoid leaving anything. Check under couch cushions for cell phones and coins and such. Take trash bags and put in the trunk of your car. Re-evaluate the area and see if there is ANYTHING left at all. If not it is ok to stay or leave as indicated. (Do not stay somewhere that you were not supposed to be) Relax and congratulate yourselves for a job well done.
