HOARDING? Is there a cure?

Hoarding
There is no cure.

Hoarding is a disease for which there is no cure . Everything is a mess on top of mess. It is tiring to look at and impossible to clean up. Some solutions might be close the door and go into another room or turn off the light. These all work well until you run out of space.
There must be some underlying issue that causes hoarding. What could it possibly be? Lets see:
1) You want more?
2) Each piece of stuff has an attached memory?
3) You might need it in the future and don’t want to waste money buying it again?
4) Are you selfish?
5) Do you just like being surrounded by lots of stuff?
6) Are you disorganized?
7) Are you crazy?
8) Are you depressed?
9) Are you grieving something or someone? (recent move, lost spouse, empty nest)
10) Are you lazy?IMG_0237

If you buy the wrong thing , do you return it or keep it and go buy the correct one?
Ok,you say you want more. More WHAT? More stuff? More food? More sex? More love? WHAT IS IT?
Now lets just say this. Every single piece of stuff has a memory attached. WTF does that mean?
Let’s apply this question to items in your personal closet.
What is the memory?
Is it a person, place or thing you did? Detach from it and use a photo instead. Get rid of the item and move on.
If this is impossible, get one large moving box. In this box you will place items that you will save for now.
Choose wisely because there is only so much space.
Start with your personal closet. When you have 1 spare hour, start this project.

SHOES

Every shoe in your closet that you hate, out grew, wore out, haven’t worn in a year or two but you’re not sure why, these all have memories attached? Kind of hard to believe. Get two bags from the pantry, a black one and a white one.
Go into the closet, pick up a pair of shoes that you haven’t worn in a year and ask yourself this:
1)Will I EVER wear this? Be honest. If you haven’t worn it in a year unless it is some special formal attire, put it in a bag. You choose. White is trash and should only be used if the shoes are worn out or broken beyond repair. Black is your donate bag. Oh oops I forgot the SELL pile. Who wants to buy your old shoes? No one unless the pair of shoes is very special and unique. But isn’t all your stuff that anyway? Before you use this pile, realize that charity is better than the selling things like shoes. You will feel better about everything if you just choose one of the bags to dispose of the shoes. DO IT!
Now repeat this for each pair of shoes in your closet. The ones left that you are going to keep. Choose an area in your closet and designate a specific place for each pair. Put them there. Good job!
